Housing and Planning Launch (SWO Events)

Under the Coalition Government housing and planning policy is being transformed. The abolition of the Regional Spatial Strategies and the move towards localism and community-led development are major changes for housing and planning and present opportunities for partners.

This launch event for the new South West Observatory Housing and Planning Module took place in Bristol on 29/11/2011.

Speakers, including Professor Janice Morphet (RMJM Consultancy / Bartlett School of Planning), Professor Steve Wilcox (Centre for Housing Policy, University of York) and Professor Martin Boddy (Assistant Vice Chancellor of Research and Engagement at the University of the West of England), explored the current context of housing and planning policy. Delegates also heard from Tim Watton (Spatial Planning and Environment Service Manager from Gloucester City Council) and Alan Fox (Director at Cornwall Community Land Trust) on how national policy changes are impacting at a local level. The event was chaired by Colin Molton, Executive Director for the South and South West at the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA), who also spoke at the event on changes to the HCA.
